Obituary for Ailene Elberta Bertschman Powell

Mrs. Powell was born in Milan, Missouri to Fred and Gertrude McKinstray Bertschman. She was blessed with good health and boundless energy and is the last survivor of her generation of immediate family members. She lived unassisted in her home until the last year of her life.

While attending beauty school in Kirksville, Missouri, she met and married Robert Aaron Powell in 1940. During her Missouri years, she owned and operated a small beauty shop and later worked in a factory while raising a family of four children. In 1970 the family moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado and bought a small motel, which she managed until her retirement in 1985 when she moved to Fayetteville, Tennessee.

Ailene loved traveling and visited most of the fifty United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand, and several European countries.

A lifelong member of the Church of God, Mrs. Powell faithfully attended Harmony Hill in Fayetteville until just a few months before her death.

Survivors include her children: Judy (Dave) Lenardson and Dr. Vanna Powell of Apache Junction, Arizona, Marva Sheets of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Marvin (Cathy) Powell of Fayetteville, Tennessee. Grandchildren: Jeff (Darcy) Lenardson and Brian (Sarah) Lenardson of Reno, Nevada, Curt (Enedia) Lenardson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Brad (Erin) Lenardson of Cicero, Indiana, Desiree (Aaron) Kuhns of Rifle, Colorado, David Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John and Timothy Wright of Kirksville, Missouri, Christina Powell and Sarah (Aaron) Milz of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Wesley (Sabrina) Powell of Clarksville, Tennessee. Nineteen great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. Interment will be beside her husband in Idaho Springs.

Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ailene Elberta Bertschman Powell.
