Obituary for Joe E. Raby, Jr.

Joe E. Raby, Jr., age 91, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020, peacefully at his home in Fayetteville, TN, with family by his side. Joe was the beloved best friend and husband of Rebecca (Becky) Raby, his wife of 69 years, whom he wed September 27, 1950.

Born December 8, 1928 in Cookeville, TN, he was the son of the late Mary Estelle (Nichols) and Joe E. Raby. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, followed by a lifetime career at the U.S. Post Office Fayetteville, TN, where he was awarded the prestigious Million Mile Award for safety as a rural mail carrier.

A devoted and loving husband and proud father, Joe is survived by his wife, Rebecca, children, Patricia (Clay) Williams of Memphis, TN, Stephen (Tina) Raby of Indialantic, FL and David (Pam) Raby of Nolensville, TN, as well as his seven grandsons, Adam (Joleen) Raby, Bryan (Camille) Raby, Patrick (Kerry) Williams, Andrew (Lindsay) Williams, Matthew (Amber) Raby, Joseph Raby and Tyler Raby; two great grandsons, Jake Raby and Hamilton Raby, and his great granddaughter, Aleigha Raby.

Funeral Services will be held at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Ann Hatcher officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. preceding the service at the church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, 200 Elk Ave. N, Fayetteville, TN 37334. The family would like to thank Lincoln Medical Hospice Care for their loving care and support over the recent weeks. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home will manage arrangements.
